How Often Have 2 WRs Had Over 200 Receiving Yards in the Same Weekend?

This past weekend, Miles Austin of the Dallas Cowboys and Roddy White of the Atlanta Falcons each had over 200 receiving yards. Seeing that made me wonder how many other times this has happened in the NFL. As it turns out, according to my research anyway, this has happened only 7 times since 1960, prior to this weekend. To see who the other players were, click the link to read the rest of the post.

Why did I only go back to 1960, you ask? Mainly because the tool (Player Game Finder) that I used to find this information at Pro-Football-Reference.com only goes back to 1960. If you click the hyperlink for this information, you’ll see a list of all WRs since 1960 to have more than 200 receiving yards in a single game. The total number of times it has happened is 118. As I already mentioned, Week 5 of the 2009 season was only the 8th time in which two different receivers eclipsed that mark on the same weekend. Below is the list of those occurrences.

In some cases here, we see some all time greats, like Lance Alworth, Bobby Mitchell, and Bob Hayes. It’s interesting that three of these rare weekends involved players for the Cowboys, more than any other team, now that Austin has joined the group.

How about Stephone Paige! That was good for 2nd on the list of highest receiving totals since 1960. I remember watching him with the Chiefs for years. That game was definitely not during the Marty-ball era. Anyway, not really anything in the way of analysis here. I just thought it was interesting that two different WRs had such good days on Sunday and wondered how rare an occurrence it was.
